When you come to the Driftless Cafe, you can count on a few things. We want you here, and we will welcome you. The menu will be short, it will change with the seasons and it will be written in chalk. The food will be fresh, and whenever possible, local, coming from neighboring farms(view a partial list).
Larry Meiller of Wisconsin Public Radio talks with Pat Dillon and Lynne Diebel, authors of "Green Travel Guide to Southern Wisconsin" (University of Wisconsin Press) July 15, 2010 (we’re mentioned at about the 10 minute mark)
In Downtown Viroqua, [the] casual Driftless Cafe serves great coffee and espresso as well as delicious local fare—homemade soups, salads, fresh-baked sourdough bread and pizza—about 80 percent of which is made with local ingredients. Daily specials are heavy on the veggies, but the staff is happy to add meat if you wish. Their organic fair trade coffee is from local microroaster Kickapoo Coffee, and they serve microbrews like New Glarus and Sand Creek as well as very nice trade wines. Half the town seems to pass through this cozy place sometime during the day—it's a community gathering spot as well as an eatery.
